Dates

December 28, 2010 - January 11, 2011

Description

Spend nine days exploring the music, history and culture of Liverpool, one of the historic gems of the United Kingdom. This program will offer students the opportunity to experience first-hand some of the iconic sites where popular music history was forged in the 1960s including the Cavern Club as well as the Casbah Coffee Club, where the Beatles performed at the earliest stage of their career. Liverpool was also a major mercantile hub in the 18th and 19th century, and played a crucial role in the establishment of slavery in the New World. Students will stay in a youth hostel steps away from Liverpool's city center and enjoy a program of guided tours to cathedrals, museums, significant music sites as well as interaction with people who have been a part of Liverpool's rich cultural heritage. A number of tours are included in the program, along with adequate free time for students to explore the many galleries, shops, coffee houses and pubs that make up Liverpool. A proper "Scouser" pub-crawl is also in the program.

The program is open to all Pacific students based on the application criteria posted below.

Interested students may elect to develop an Undergraduate Research (MMGT 197) topic in consultation with the trip leaders based on their experiences in Liverpool.
