Pharmacy Students Head to London

Pharmacy students at University of the Pacific will embark on an educational adventure in London from March 9 through March 18. While overseas, the class of 20 students will attend sessions at the London School of Pharmacy, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Society of Apothecaries. They also will visit Westminster and the House of Parliament to discuss the National Health Service with members of Parliament.

The 10-day trip will be chaperoned by Dr. Robert Halliwell and Dr. Marcus Ravnan, both professors of pharmacy at Pacific. This is the first special topics class to train overseas in the School of Pharmacy’s 50-year history.

“On this trip, students will learn about how pharmacists are trained in England and their role in the National Health Service,” Halliwell said. “This is a timely venture given the changes and plans for heath care here in California.”

Besides studying medicine, students will take a guided walking-tour of London, and explore the British Museum. They also will attend a theatre performance and will have plenty of leisure time for their own endeavors within the city. Upon their return to Pacific, students will make short presentations on their experiences that will be open to the public. The trip is part of a special topics elective class offered through the School of Pharmacy titled, “International Pharmacy Studies." and it is worth two academic credits.
