Application Checklist

Students should begin this process 1-1.5 years (2-3 semesters) prior to departure. The recommended timeline in which students should complete this process is as follows:

Steps 1-8 should be completed 1-1.5 years (2-3 semesters) prior to departure.

Steps 9-11 should be completed 6-8 months prior to departure.

Steps 12 should be completed 5-7 months prior to departure.

Please complete the below steps in order.

1. Read about Pacific's application deadlines carefully and be sure to plan accordingly.

2. Attend an education abroad information session. If you are unable to attend one of the bi-monthly info sessions in Bechtel, please have one of your professors request an in-class info session by emailing the Education Abroad Advisor.

3. Submit the Interest Profile form and the Eligibility & Policies Acknowledgement form to IPS, which is located in the Bechtel International Center. These forms do not lock you in to studying abroad, but rather provide important information to assist us in advising you appropriately.

4. Find a Pacific-approved program. In addition to this website, which hosts the most current approved programs list, you may also access the Education Abroad Library, which is located in the Bechtel International Center. The Ed Abroad Library consists of binders with maps, brochures, additional program feedback and other useful information for selecting a program. If you would like to participate in a non-approved program, you will need to petition approval of your program and allow for a minimum of 2 weeks to receive a response to your request.

5. Email the Ed Abroad Advisor with your availability to schedule a meeting in order to discuss your program options and address questions or concerns you may have.

6. Optional Items:

A. Add us on Facebook to meet education abroad alumni and other Pacific students interested in studying abroad.

B. Use Four/Five Year Plan to assist you and your faculty advisor in arranging you academic plan to include a semester(s) abroad.

C. Begin researching scholarships. You may also find scholarship information on program specific websites, such as USAC, ISEP, CIEE, IES, etc., as many offer scholarships to eligible students participating in one of their programs.

7. View a Sample Ed Abroad Estimated Budget and the Estimated Budget Explanation sheet to see which items you will be financially responsible for when you study abroad through Pacific.

8. Check with Financial Aid for questions regarding continuation of your Financial Aid package. IPS does not have access to this information.

9. If you were not approved for a specific program during your initial meeting with the Ed Abroad Advisor, email to request approval for your program choice(s). Spaces are limited, so make your request early. Your email should include:

A. first and last name

B. final program choice(s)- be specific (i.e. "CIEE Liberal Arts- Lima, Peru" rather than just "CIEE Lima, Peru")

C. semester(s) abroad  (i.e. Spring 2013)

10. Complete Course Approval Request (CAR) form. Maximum course load is the equivalent of 18 Pacific credits. Since you will be enrolled at Pacific while you are abroad, course overload fees apply for any additional credits taken abroad. Pass/No Credit grading is NOT an option for courses taken abroad. A complete CAR form includes:

A. The equivalent of at least 12 Pacific credits listed under Overseas Courses

B. Equivalent Pacific Course Information filled in for EACH overseas course listed

C. ALL applicable signatures: Faculty Advisor(s) for major/minor requirements and electives; GE Coordinator for general education classes and non-major/minor elective credits; and You, the Student

D. Appropriate submission of the form (see Instructions on the CAR form)

11. Once the CAR form is complete, email the Ed Abroad Advisor with your availability to schedule a meeting in which you will:

A. Submit your completed CAR form

B. Receive the hard copy application(s) for your program(s) as well as the accompanying application checklist(s). IPS forms listed on all application checklist are available here:

Conditions for Enrollment
Emergency Contacts Sheet
Authorization Form (optional, but highly recommended)

C. Receive an endorsed golden ticket for enrollment in Cross-cultural Training I (required class to be taken the semester prior to departure)

12. Complete your application prior to the IPS application deadline for your program(s). Once your application is complete, email the Ed Abroad Advisor with your availability to schedule a meeting in which you will:

A. Submit your completed application materials

B. Review and receive a copy of your personalized estimated budget(s)

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the application process for Pacific education abroad. As you await to hear about your acceptance from the program provider and/or host institution, please take a look ahead at the next steps.
