Optional Practical Training (OPT)
Optional Practical Training (OPT) is defined as "temporary employment for practical training directly related to the student's major area of study." Optional Practical Training can be authorized at the following times:
- During your annual vacation and at other times when school is not in session, if you are currently enrolled and eligible, and you intend to register for the next term.
- While school is in session, provided the temporary employment does not exceed 20 hours per week.
- After completion of all degree course requirements, excluding thesis or equivalent, if you are in a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree program.
- After you complete your course of study.
