Admission Requirements

General Requirements

Applicants to all graduate-level programs must have:

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. (Please note that the MS in Engineering Science Blended Program does not require a B.S/B.A. For more information, please see MSES blended program.)
  • Adequate undergraduate preparation in the proposed major field or equivalent evidence of an appropriate background for undertaking as an advanced degree program.
  • An undergraduate average of B (GPA of 3.0) or better overall in the undergraduate program or in upper division work of the baccalaureate degree.

Admission will be denied to applicants possessing bachelor's degrees with a significant amount of credit awarded for work experience that was not supervised by a faculty member of an accredited university nor evaluated in units which identify the academic content.

Standardized Test Scores

All graduate programs except Analytics, Business, Education and Food Studies (all degrees) require the general GRE exam. An application is not complete without the receipt of official results of standardized examinations to be sent directly from the testing service.

Official results from the general Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). See the ETS Homepage for further information on this exam and how to report scores to the University of the Pacific.

The ETS institutional code for the University of the Pacific is 4065. This code is used for both GRE and TOEFL exam reporting.

MBA Program
The Graduate Management Examination Test (GMAT) is required for admission instead of the GRE. For GMAT information, call the Eberhardt School of Business at 209.946.2629, or contact the Educational Testing Service at P.O. Box 6103, Princeton, NJ 08541-6103, or mba.com.

International Students
International applicants who are graduates of international colleges or universities (where the primary language of the country is not English) are not required to take the GRE General test, unless they are applying for a degree in the Biology, Engineering Science, Music, Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences, or Physical Therapy programs. International applicants must submit a complete application packet six weeks prior to posted deadlines.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all non-US citizens from countries having a language other than English as a primary language. See the ETS Homepage for additional information. The ETS institutional code for the University of the Pacific is 4065. This code is used for both GRE and TOEFL exam reporting.

Official Transcripts

To complete the application portfolio, official transcripts for all work taken after high school are required, no matter how few credits were earned from the institution. Transcripts must be submitted to the University of the Pacific in one of two ways:

  • in the unopened envelope in which they were received, or
  • directly from the issuing institution.

Electronic transcripts may be sent to gradadmission@pacific.edu.
Transcripts may be mailed to:
