Brandon Woody

Trumpet Player Brandon Woody is from Baltimore, Maryland. He has performed, played or studied with Terri Lyne Carrington, Todd Marcus, Kriss Funn, John Lamkin Jr, Tim Green, Tiger Okoshi, Warren Wolf, Antonio Hart, Dontae Winslow, Paul Carr, Gary Thomas, and Alex Norris. He was a 2016 Young arts winner in Jazz, and accepted into the 2015 Jazz Band of America, the 2014 Berklee Jazz workshop, a semi Finalist in the Shenandoah Jazz Soloist competition and recently won both the BSA and Peabody Concerto Competitions. Brandon was recently selected by the Baltimore Sun as Baltimore's Rising artist. Brandon is in his first year as a Brubeck Fellow.

 

 


Isaiah Collier

Isaiah Collier

Saxophonist Isaiah Collier is a native of Chicago, Illinois and attends ChiArts High School. With his parents' encouragement, Isaiah began playing the saxophone at age 12. Isaiah has participated in the Monk institute for two years. During this time he has toured with Bobby Watson, Antonio Hart and Kelly Lee Evans. He has played with The AACM and many renowned and local artists. Isaiah is in his first year as a Brubeck Fellow.

 

 




Jamael Dean

Jamael Dean

Pianist Jamael Dean was born in Bakersfield California and started playing piano at the age of nine. Jamael's grandfather, drummer Donald Dean, is an amazing inspiration and support for him. Some of Jamael's recent accomplishments are 2016 Grammy Band Jazz Combo member, in 2015 Toured with Kamasi Washington, also in 2015 toured with Thundercat, 2014/16 Thelonious Monk Institute National Performing Arts High School Septet, 2015-16 First Place Dolo Coker Participant, 2014-15 NAACP Act-So Gold Medalist and 2014-16 YoungArts winner. Jamael is in his first year as a Brubeck Fellow.

 





 Zane DeBord

Zane DeBord
Bassist Zane DeBord is a 2015 graduate of the Chicago High School for the Arts. He began playing electric bass at thirteen, switching to upright after becoming enthralled with jazz his freshman year in High School. Since then, he has been an involved member of the Chicago jazz scene, working with the Ravinia Jazz Scholars, Gallery 37, and the Jazz Institute of Chicago, as well as with international organizations such as the Thelonious Monk Institute and the JEN conference. He has worked with artists such as Bobby Broom, Dennis Carroll, and Bobby Watson. Zane is in his second year as a Brubeck Fellow.




Timothy Angulo

Timothy Angulo
Drummer Timothy Angulo, from Berkeley, California, has been studying jazz since the age of 14. Throughout his musical career he has been a member of groups such as The Young Musicians Choral Orchestra, SF Jazz High School All-Stars, and The Next Generation Jazz Orchestra (2015). Growing up in the Bay Area Tim has been mentored by and been able to play with great local musicians such as Faye Carol, Geechi Taylor, Howard Wiley, Marcus Shelby, Sly Randolph, Joe Warner, Jeff Chambers, David Ewell, Mike Aaberg, and Teodross Avery. Tim is in his second year as a Brubeck fellow.
