Lucas Bere

Lucas Bere

Saxophonist Lucas Bere is a 2014 graduate of Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, CA, and has been playing saxophone since the age of 10. Bere has garnered soloist awards from the Monterey, Folsom, Reno, Sacramento State, Charles Mingus, and Essentially Ellington Jazz Festivals, and was lead tenor in the California All-State Jazz Ensemble. Lucas has performed with Donny McCaslin, Avishai Cohen, The Wee Trio, and The Mingus Big Band. Lucas is in his second year as a Brubeck Fellow.




Max Holm

Max Holm
Pianist Max Holm is from Miami, Florida. He began studying classical violin at age 6.  When, at age 14, he heard Keith Jarrett, he switched instruments and genres.  Holm received the 2014 Essentially Ellington Competition Outstanding Soloist Award, was the only US high school student awarded the 2015 Jazz Education Network Founders Scholarship, and was chosen for the 2014 Jazz Band of America. As a member of Utah's Crescent Super Band, he has played arena shows to 19,000 persons. He's performed with many greats, including Wynton Marsalis, Jon Batiste, and Kirk Whalum.  He'll appear on Grammy award-winning Jeff Coffin's next album. Max is in his first year as a Brubeck Fellow.





Emmett Sher

Emmett Sher
Guitarist Emmett Sher is a 2015 graduate of LaGuardia High School in New York City and has been playing guitar since age 10. Emmett was a member of the New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band and was also the assistant musical director of the Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra. He received a YoungArts Merit award for jazz guitar in 2015 and participated in YoungArts New York week. He participated in both the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony as well as the Skidmore Jazz Institute. He received an outstanding soloist award from the Charles Mingus and Essentially Ellington regional competitions. Emmett is in his first year as a Brubeck Fellow.





 Zane DeBord

Zane DeBord
Bassist Zane DeBord is a 2015 graduate of the Chicago High School for the Arts. He began playing electric bass at thirteen, switching to upright after becoming enthralled with jazz his freshman year in High School. Since then, he has been an involved member of the Chicago jazz scene, working with the Ravinia Jazz Scholars, Gallery 37, and the Jazz Institute of Chicago, as well as with international organizations such as the Thelonious Monk Institute and the JEN conference. He has worked with artists such as Bobby Broom, Dennis Carroll, and Bobby Watson. Zane is in his first year as a Brubeck Fellow.




Timothy Angulo

Timothy Angulo
Drummer Timothy Angulo, from Berkeley, California, has been studying jazz since the age of 14. Throughout his musical career he has been a member of groups such as The Young Musicians Choral Orchestra, SF Jazz High School All-Stars, and The Next Generation Jazz Orchestra (2015). Growing up in the Bay Area Tim has been mentored by and been able to play with great local musicians such as Faye Carol, Geechi Taylor, Howard Wiley, Marcus Shelby, Sly Randolph, Joe Warner, Jeff Chambers, David Ewell, Mike Aaberg, and Teodross Avery. Tim is in his first year as a Brubeck fellow.
