A sportsmanship rating system will be used for all officiated RecSports contests. The philosophy of the RecSports program is that good sportsmanship is expected of every participant in every contest. A "good sport" is fair, courteous, has a positive attitude and accepts results gracefully. All individuals and teams participating should comply with the spirit of the game as well as the written rules that govern the activity. In order to encourage proper conduct during contests, members of the RecSports staff will issue a rating to each team after each contest.
"A" - Excellent Conduct & Sportsmanship
Players cooperate fully with the officials and opposing team members. If necessary, the captain converses calmly with officials about rule interpretations and calls. (4 Points)
"B" - Good Conduct & Sportsmanship
Team members verbally complain about some decisions made by the officials and/or show minor dissension, which may or may not merit a Yellow Card. Teams that receive one Unsportsmanlike Penalty/Yellow Card/Technical Foul, will receive no higher than a "B" rating. (3 Points)
"C" - Average Conduct & Sportsmanship
Team members make comments to the officials and/or opposing team from the field/court and/or sidelines throughout the contest. The team captain exhibits minimal control over teammates or him/herself. Teams that receive One Red Card/Two Yellow Cards/Two Technical Fouls/Two Unsportsmanlike Penalties will receive no higher than a "C" rating. (2 Points)
"D" - Below Average Conduct & Sportsmanship
Team constantly comments to the officials and/or opposing team from the field/court and/or sidelines throughout the contest. The team captain exhibits little or no control over teammates or him/herself. Teams that receive Three Yellow Cards (One Red Card and One Yellow Card)/Three Technical Fouls/Three Unsportsmanlike Penalties will receive no higher than a "D" rating. (0 Points)
"F"- Poor Conduct & Sportsmanship
Team is completely uncooperative. Captain has no control over teammates and/or him/herself. Any team causing a game to be forfeited, other than by not showing, or any team that receives multiple Red Cards/has multiple players ejected/shows blatant disrespect to RecSports employees may receive an "F" rating. (-1 Points)
Any team receiving an "F" sportsmanship rating must meet with the Graduate Assistant of RecSports before the team is allowed to participate in future competitions. Any team averaging less than "B" at the conclusion of the regular season will be excluded from the playoffs. Any team receiving a "D" or "F" during play-off competition will be dropped from the tournament. There will be no appeal process on the rating you receive! Captains, you are responsible for the conduct of your teams and spectators!
