Awards and Recognitions
Pacific's First Green Building
Upon opening in August 2008, the Don and Karen DeRosa University Center became Pacific's first green building. To ensure it met the highest professional green standards, Pacific applied for certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. The organization provides third-party certification through its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System (LEED) program. The rating system is used around the world.
Green Building of America Award
The Real Estate & Construction Review selected the DeRosa University Center for the Green Building of America Award and featured it in the special Real Estate & Construction Review-Northwest Green Success Stories edition. Chosen from more than 2,500 nominated projects, the DeRosa University Center was highlighted as "one of the region's most important, innovative or unique new or renovated sustainable facilities".
Award of Excellence
The City of Stockton granted Pacific two Awards of Excellence for the DeRosa University Center and the Biological Sciences Center in July 2009. The awards were given for Pacific's "significant contributions to urban beautification" in Stockton by the City Planning Commission and Cultural Heritage Board. The city hands out the awards to encourage improvement and beautification of the local community, to create awareness toward building preservation and maintenance, and to promote imagination and sensitivity when designing new buildings.
Green Building Award of Merit
California Construction magazine granted Pacific's DeRosa University Center the Green Building Award of Merit in September 2009 as part of its Best of 2009 awards program. The statewide competition annually recognizes construction and design excellence in Northern and Southern California.
Green Judges' Choice Winner
The College Planning & Management Magazine selected the DeRosa University Center a "Green Judges' Choice Winner" and featured it on the front cover of its November 2009 issue, as well as in the publication's 2009 Green Education Design Showcase section. The annual award program recognizes innovation, shares best practices, and provides schools and colleges across the country access to inspirational ideas in green design.
LEED Certification
Pacific's DeRosa University Center became the first LEED-certified building in San Joaquin County in November 2009. The distinction was granted by the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Green Building Rating System, a third-party certification program which serves as the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
