Crime and Safety on Campus
The University of the Pacific is a very safe place to live and go to school.
We are one of only two private universities in California whose officers have full police officer powers. The department provides 24 hour, 365 days a year protection for the university community.
Action Plans for Campus Safety Initiative
January 2011
Major Initiatives for Consideration:
| 1. | Double the S.T.R.I.P.E. cadet patrol unit to give more visibility on campus and provide additional capacity for nighttime escorts around campus. |
| 2. | Hire expert to assess lighting, surveillance camera improvements, and other security campus-wide, including the levee and footbridge, and selected areas of campus. Install downturn lighting on University buildings bordering the levee and improve lighting at the footbridge. |
| 3. | Install live surveillance camera system to replace current videotape camera system in exterior higher crime areas, inc. Pacific House, parking lots, levee, townhouses, footbridge, and Greek houses. |
| 4. | Partner with Miracle Mile businesses to increase security presence along Pacific Avenue. |
| 5. | Pilot an off-campus ride request van within a region proximate to campus and hours TBD. |
| 6. | Hire a nighttime security patrol for the levee and the Town House Apartments. |
