Appeal Procedures

To appeal proposed sanctions, you must submit a written statement to the Judicial Director within three days of receiving the final decision of the judicial hearing. You may appeal sanctions on the following grounds:

  • The sanction is grossly disproportionate to the offense.
  • The procedures in this Code were not followed, resulting in prejudice to the student.
  • New relevant evidence is available that could not be produced at the time of the judicial hearing, despite the exercise of reasonable diligence.
  • The decision is not supported by a preponderance of evidence.

The Judicial Director convenes the Judicial Appeals Committee. The Vice President of Student Life appoints appeal committee members following recommendations from the academic council and student leadership organizations. An appeals committee is comprised of three student members, one faculty and one staff member.
