Internship Program

Counseling Services at University of the Pacific (Pacific) provides clinical services to Pacific students year-round. Your internship experience with us will focus on working with a diverse college-age population. Our goal is to help each of our psychology doctoral interns become competent, culturally sensitive, and ready to enter the field as a generalist. Additionally, the internship program at Pacific is focused on increasing your confidence in your ability as a psychologist.

Training Available

We train interns in:
  • Individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.
  • Emergency and assessment services.
  • Outreach and consultation services.

We offer interns a variety of seminars to help hone professional competencies. We are committed to promoting excellence and competence with psychological skill levels, and strive to provide experiences that allow for interpersonal depth and enhanced clinical ability within a humanistic and multicultural framework. The internship year is an opportunity to further develop areas of interest interns may have, and concentration and emphasis on these areas is encouraged and supported through the training model. The internship program includes a clinical caseload, individual supervision, training supervision, psychological assessment, outreach and consultation.

Applying for an Internship

All applications for 2013 - 2014 Internships must be electronically submitted through APPIC by our due date of Friday, November 9, 2012. Due to the impact of the storm on the east coast we have extended our deadline to Friday, November 16, 2012. In order to be considered you must:

  • Complete the AAPI found via the APPIC website (click on the AAPI link and follow instructions outlined at the Applicant portal)
  • In your cover letter, please explain why you believe you would be a good fit with the internship program at University of the Pacific Counseling Services.
    • Be specific about your goals for internship and how our program, in particular, will help you meet these goals.
    • Be sure to include your email address.
  • Three letters of reference should be submitted with your AAPI with at least two from licensed psychologists who have supervised your clinical work.  References should reflect your most recent work if possible.

It is important that you follow these instructions or your application may be disqualified. All completed applications must be submitted on-line and received by November 9, 2012. For further information, please contact:
