Chinwe Ohanele

When Chinwe emigrated from Nigeria with her family at the age of four, little did she know that her family's dedication to education would lead her to the University of the Pacific, where she is a Economics and Philosophy Major with a minor in Pre-Law. This decision was the start of a four-year educational experience that allowed Chinwe to challenge herself academically, professionally and personally and has led her to a passion for equality through international law.

In her Junior year, Chinwe became a Resident Assistant in Southwest Hall and greatly enjoyed the opportunity to work with incoming freshman. Some of her most memorable experiences at Pacific occurred while being a Resident Assistant and she thoroughly enjoyed helping her fellow students in their academic and social development. While working with Housing and Greek life, Chinwe also worked for ASuop's Arts and Entertainment board where she was able to utilize her planning and programming skills in the execution of the University Center's first Tiger Nights: Night of Mystique-one of the most student attended events on campus. Later that same year, working with the Women's History Month committee, Chinwe was able to bring together past partners, and approached new partners, to fund the Raining Jane concert that concluded the Women's History Month Calendar.

In addition to collaborations with multicultural communities and administrative communities, Chinwe has been a member of the Black History Month Committee for three years. The opportunity to work on programming that influences the community has allowed Chinwe to meet community leaders who have made great contributions to the greater Stockton community and inspired her to become more involved.

With all the wonderful opportunities Chinwe has had at Pacific, she has also been fortunate to work with some amazing mentors who inspire her to be her best. Coupled with the exemplary education she has received thus far, there is no doubt in her mind that she will pursue a future that will give back to her community. For a young woman from another country, Chinwe's experience at Pacific has not only been life changing, it has also been the catalyst to her American dream.
