Attendance - Every Day Counts

School success starts with attendance

Children who are absent for 10 percent or more of the school year - that's about 18 days - for any reason are less likely to read proficiently by the end of third grade.

To encourage students and families to build good attendance habits - and to draw attention to some of the factors, like health and transportation, that often make consistent attendance difficult - Pacific's Beyond Our Gates Community Council hosts the annual Every Day Counts Attendance Challenge.

Here's how it works: All San Joaquin County preschools and elementary schools, public and private, are invited to register.Students who achieve perfect attendance for the month of September will receive special recognition - and be entered into a prize drawing.
