CATCH Math Coordinator 2014

The CATCH Math Academy (Concepts & Applications with TeCHnology) is a five week intensive Math program designed to target incoming 9th graders whose current academic level in math is no more than two grade levels behind. Instruction will be provided around the basic concepts that support success in Algebra (fractions, ratios & proportions, integers, and functions). The CATCH Math Academy will embed district adopted technology programs (ST Math, TenMarks, etc.) Direct Interactive Instruction and the concepts of project based learning and the flipped classroom, to engage students in math concepts and applications. The Academy will be administered out of the University of the Pacific’s Tomorrow Project with joint oversight by the Benerd School of Education and the School of Engineering and Computer Science. The purpose of the CATCH Academy is to enhance mathematic concepts and skills through the support of technology; improve study skills; improve self-esteem and confidence, and learn real-life applications.   


Grades - Incoming 9th Graders
Dates - June 17 - July 18, 2013 on the University of the Pacific campus
Training - Teachers must participate in professional development Initial availability - one week prior to the Academy's start date

-    Valid Multiple Subject or Single Subject Mathematics teaching credential.
-    Valid Administrative Services Credential Preferred
-    Background in concepts and applications of math content stretching into Algebra
-    Training and application of Direct Interactive Instruction (DII).
-    Must have experience with a team approach to program implementation.
-    Strong communication skills
-    Experienced with educational software and technology.
-    Must believe in the potential of all students to learn.

Experience with and sensitive to underserved groups.
Ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferred but not required.
