Meet the Pacific Parent Association Board

Pacific Parent Association President
Rick and his wife Jenny both joined the Pacific Parent Board in 2012 when their daughter, Samantha enrolled at Pacific to begin her degree in psychology. Rick holds an honors degree in computer science and a masters degree in business administration and works as a vice president at Cisco Systems. Rick and Jenny strongly believe in getting involved with their children's schools and Rick has previously been an active member of their schools Parent Teacher Association in England.
Marc joined the Parent Association Board in 2013, as his son Jonathan was completing his first year as a Tiger mathematics major. When Jonathan chose to attend Pacific, Marc and his wife Becky were excited because of the intimate feeling of its campus and Pacific's small-sized classes which allow students and professors to get to know each other.
Marc is a graduate of UCSB and has practiced dentistry in Fairfield for 30+ years. He has been active in community affairs, including his dental society and the Boy Scouts of America and is proud of his two sons who are Eagle scouts.
Tom and his wife Ann have a daughter Emily who joined the Pacific family as a freshman in 2013. Emily currently studies sociology and she is also proud to be a middle blocker for Tigers Volleyball. Quoting Tom: "Ann and I recently attended the Family Orientation, and the message we received
was that everyone at Pacific cares very deeply about their university, and they take great pride in watching it thrive. Arriving at a new college,
especially out of state, is a daunting experience for anyone, but Emily has felt like a member of the Pacific family from day one. There is a
positive energy at Pacific that I have not experienced at other colleges and universities, and this makes the institution very special. As a new
member of the PPA Board, I am committed to helping Pacific continue on its path of excellence." Tom received his PhD from SUNY Stony Brook in 1983; he then worked as a neuroscientist for nearly three decades at the University of Arizona until 2013. The Christensens make their home in
Michael and Tammy have three children. Their youngest, Michelle, is a freshman at Pacific majoring in Health sciences hoping to become a Physical Therapist. Michael is retired from Federal law enforcement, and currently works part time as a Safety Specialist at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. He wanted to be more involved with the Pacific experience.
Tammy attended college in Hayward California and obtained her AA degree in Nursing at Chabot College. She has been working as a Registered Nurse over 30 years. Tammy went back to school to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012, and is currently working on her Masters in Nursing while working full time at Kaiser Permanente. Tammy looks forward to helping other parents with their children's Pacific adventure. Michael and Tammy currently reside in Dublin, California.
Jenny is a former senior computer control language writer who has dedicated much of her time to raising her and Rick's four children. Her children's education comes top of the priority list and Jenny has been a keen and active participant in all of their schools activities - from assisting the teacher's in the classroom, helping students with reading, or organizing events and activities as well as served on the PTSA board in Atlanta. She also runs her own small laser engraving business.
In 2005, Cathy and her family attended a Preview Day at Pacific. By the time they left campus, their son made the decision that University of the Pacific was his first choice of colleges. He was accepted and graduated in 4 years; "a Pacific promise." Currently, he is enjoying his work at an internet company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cathy enjoys supporting Pacific in an advisory role along with participating in various campus events. Cathy's career experience includes 25 plus years in hi-tech sales and sales management. Currently, Cathy has her own business consulting and representing designers and artists. Her college experience includes both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business.
Jeff and his wife Cathy became active on Pacific Parent Board in 2006 after their son decided to attend Pacific. Jeff holds a graduate degree in business, a bachelors in engineering and continues his 30 year career in the semiconductor industry. His past board positions with two 501c3 not for profit organizations, as well as many years of community involvement, have been to the benefit of University of the Pacific's Parent board. Jeff currently serves as the Vice President on the Parent Board.
John and Laurie have a son named Peter who graduated from Pacific in 5 years with both a Bachelors and Master's degree in Computer Science. Peter is currently employed as a Software Developer in San Francisco. John and Laurie have been Parent Board members for the last 5 years. Participating on the Pacific Parent Association Board has been a great experience, keeping us connected to our son's school, teachers and administrators. We really enjoy helping prospective parents understand what Pacific has to offer. Our own son's experience has been a great success story and we could not be happier. John attended Santa Clara University and currently works for Intel in Santa Clara. They currently live in San Jose.
Laurie attended Pacific as did her mother before her making Peter a third generation Tiger! Laurie is a former Speech and Language Pathologist and Pre-School teacher. She currently does volunteer work at a local hospital and cares for her grandnephew. John and Laurie have enjoyed their time working on the Parent Board helping new families learn more about Pacific at Yield meetings in the San Jose area, assisting on campus during Profile & Preview Days, Orientation, and Parent Weekend events.
Lourdes (Lou) Sobredo
Lou and her husband James are parents to Adrian, a sophomore (Fall 2013)majoring in Economics. As a resident of Stockton, it was important forLou to have local representation in the Parent Board. She recentlyretired as an Employment Development Administrator (State of CA). She isnow an Independent Consultant partnered with Rodan & FieldsDermatologists, the new company that offers anti-age skincare solutionsand business opportunity ownership from the doctors who created Proactiv.She holds a graduate degree in Public Administration (University of SanFrancisco) and an undergraduate degree in Psychology (UCLA).
