Regions VI & VII

The Valley Sierra California Arts Project (VSCAP) specifically represents Arts Education in Regions VI and VII as part of the larger California Subject Matter Project network. Our mission is to provide professional development for K-Postsecondary teachers in the four arts disciplines of dance, music, theatre and visual arts. To this end, VSCAP focuses on content development, building community, and implementing standards-based instruction, and meaningful assessment.

VSCAP was established in 1994 as one of 10 sites of The California Arts Project (TCAP). At that time, VSCAP was a satellite site mentored by the Bay Area California Arts Project (Bay CAP). In October of 1996, VSCAP's status was raised to Level One to more fully represent arts education in Regions VI and VII. VSCAP is housed in the Jeannette Powell Art Center at the University of the Pacific, the first private university to host an Arts Project site.
