Capital Planning & Space Management

The Office of Capital Planning and Space Management is responsible for capital planning and project management.  Additionally, this office maintains the space inventory data and space management standards and utilization.

Stockton Campus

Over the past several months, various project teams have worked on pre-planning and facilities programming for several departments.  We are completing the documents for the Athletics district, Conservatory of Music and Eberhardt School of Business.  These have provided a sense of potential project scope and quality, as well as possible costs and project duration.  Reports on these three efforts were provided to the Board of Regents at the January 2014 meeting.  Also recently completed was the internal Stockton Campus Housing Strategic Plan.  A report on this effort was provided to the Board of Regents at the January 2014 meeting.

Work to remove the Stockton Campus stadium is progressing.  Removal of structures has started, which will be followed by the elimination of the large dirt berms.  New playing fields for soccer and field hockey will be created over the summer, and a new tennis complex will soon be constructed.

New project efforts starting include:

  • Pre-Planning and Programming for Housing
  • Design for the Alex G. Spanos Center Upgrades/Improvements

Sacramento Campus

In anticipation of the addition of new programs at the Sacramento Campus and the need to better understand future space requirements for the McGeorge School of Law and these new programs, the Director of Capital Planning and Space Management has begun working from the Sacramento Campus one day a week.

San Francisco Campus

Construction on the new San Francisco Campus is nearing completion. The building was dedicated on March 7th, with many students, alumni, faculty, staff, supporters and friends of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in attendance. Representatives of the Sacramento Campus and the Stockton Campus were also present to kick-off the expansion of programs at the new San Francisco Campus site. The first dental school moves will take place in March, and a new audiology clinic will begin seeing patients in September.

Space Planning and Management

A Space Planning and Management Committee, a sub-committee of the University Facilities Committee, was established and began meeting in January.  This committee is working with the Director of Capital Planning and Space Management to advance work related to space planning and management policies, space guidelines and planning modeling, design and construction standards, development of a space database, and creation of space utilization guidelines.

This department maintains a listserve to notify the campus community of current construction and improvement projects.  If you would like to be notified of these, please send your request by clicking here.
