In 2009, Pacific adopted Sustainability as one of its seven Institutional Learning Objectives for all three Pacific campuses as a means of integrating it into the teaching, learning, outreach and operations.

Pacific became a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and AASHE Stars in 2010.

In 2010, Sustaining Pacific was established with the hiring of a part-time, Master's level, Sustainability Coordinator.During 2010-2011, April was dedicated as Sustainability Month and Pacific completed its first AASHE Stars data entry.

In 2011, the department grew with the hiring of a full time, Ph.D. level, Sustainability Director in replacement of the part-time Sustainability Coordinator.

2011 thru 2014 saw the implementation and roll out of across campus recycling, the expansion of Sustainability Month, the data entry of AASHE Stars and Princeton Review, bicycle share programs at all three campuses, the creation of the Sustainability Project Investment Fund, close collaboration with the Ted and Chris Robb Garden, and a wealth of activities and programs for students, staff and faculty.
