How to Apply

Submit an application to Pacific using the Common Application or the University of the Pacific Application.

1) Under 'Primary Major' select one of the following:

  • Bachelor of Arts - Music
  • Bachelor of Music - Jazz Studies
  • Bachelor of Music - Jazz Studies Honors, 3-year degree
  • Bachelor of Music - Music Education
  • Bachelor of Music - Music History
  • Bachelor of Music - Music Management
  • Bachelor of Music - Music Performance
  • Bachelor of Music - Music Therapy
  • Bachelor of Science - Music Industry Studies (no audition)

2) Select live or recorded audition.

3) If live, please indicate your preferred audition date. You will receive an email with your exact audition time approximately six weeks prior to that date.

4) If recorded, please include a link to a public site such as YouTube or Vimeo, or email the link to Head of Conservatory Admissions  Jessica Siena.

Please note: For Composition, Education, History, Management, and Therapy degrees, a faculty interview will be scheduled on the same day as your audition.

In addition, for Composition, each applicant is required to submit at least two original compositions: notated scores, and recordings if available. These can be printed and mailed with the recordings on a cd, emailed as pdfs and mp3s, or brought to the audition. It is usually our preference to have the compositions in advance of the audition day. Compositions for technology based media can also be submitted but they should be in addition to the two notated scores, not in place of them.

We are primarily an undergraduate music school, with approximately 250 students pursuing a wide variety of music degrees. With so many degree choices, we offer much more than is typical for a school of our size: at Pacific, you can discover a career in music that you might not have considered. A number of students are even pursuing dual degrees, for example Speech-Language Pathology and Clarinet.

We would love to discuss your interest in music and create a personalized curriculum that reflects your specific goals. Studying music is exciting, rewarding, exhilarating, maddening, demanding, tremendously satisfying, and one of the best choices you'll ever make.
