Jobs and Career Opportunities for Political Science Majors
Jobs and career opportunities for political
science majors are greater and more varied than many entering
college students realize. Prepared with a high quality college
education and a strong interest in politics, government, or
the law, Political Science majors go on to a variety of rewarding
jobs and careers. The American
Political Science Association highlights some of these in
their recent video "Career Encounters: Political Science."
Political Science majors frequently find jobs and careers in
government and politics, lobbying, market research, non-profit
organization management, education, journalism, and law.
Many of Pacific's Political Science graduates
pursue legal careers, and they may be found practicing law in
many settings. In fact, the relationship between Political Science
studies and the pursuit of a law degree is so close that the
Political Science Department administers Pacific's Pre-Law Program.
Through our accelerated
J.D. program, qualified students may enter Pacific's
McGeorge School of Law after three years of undergraduate
study.
Other recent graduates run congressional and
state legislative offices, head the lobbying division of a major
law firm, serve as the chief spokesperson for the California
Republican Party, work for the Secret Service specializing in
identity theft crimes, report on politics for major newspapers,
lead policy development efforts for a Washington state agency,
and teach at the high school and university levels.
Political Science departments attract an impressive
range of internship possibilities, and Pacific's is no exception.
Internships help students get an early start building professional
networks for furthering their careers. For more information

many Political Science majors have an inside track to rewarding
job opportunities before they graduate from college.
