Multipurpose
Gymnasium for Athletics and Recreation
The Janssen/Lagorio Family Foundation gave Pacific a $1 million gift
to jumpstart the construction of a new multipurpose gymnasium/practice
facility on the Stockton campus. Kathleen (Lagorio) Janssen is a trustee
of the Foundation, a 1968 graduate of the Benerd School of Education,
and a member of the Board of Regents. She and her husband, Dean Janssen,
are both long-time supporters of Pacific Athletics. The facility is estimated
to cost $5 million.
The gift comes at a time when the University needs larger and more modern
sport facilities. Existing facilities like the Main Gym and South Campus
Gym were built in the 1940s and are showing signs of age. The new gymnasium
will be used for Division I intercollegiate athletics, student recreation,
intramurals, and the Sports Sciences curriculum.
Summer camps and youth leagues will be able to use the facilities when
not used by the University, and the ability to host college tournaments
and playoffs is expected to bring economic benefits to local business.
