Conservatory of Music
The Conservatory of Music, the first accredited professional school of
music in the western United States, has a rich history of 125 years.
It provides superior educational opportunities in music to prepare students
for successful professional careers and to be the artistic leaders
of the future. The Conservatory program preserves traditional musical
and educational values, and will continue to explore and implement new
and innovative means of communicating those values in the classroom
and on the stage. Its music therapy and music management degree
programs are among the few such programs in the West.
Other degrees
offered are Performance, Composition, Music History, and Music
Education. With the exciting new Brubeck Institute, the Conservatory
is now offering education and outreach in jazz.
The Conservatory is a significant musical resource for the University and
the larger community with its presentation of high quality and diverse
performances by faculty, students, and visiting artists. Through teaching,
learning and performance, the faculty and students of the Conservatory
positively impact the future of music, the arts and society.
