The future of our nation — its democratic principles, its social values and commitments, its scientific progress, and its success in a global economy — ultimately depends on the quality of education professionals. The Benerd School of Education prepares exemplary elementary, secondary, and special education teachers, as well as uniquely trained school psychologists who can address the needs of the most challenged students, and outstanding principals, superintendents, and leaders for both K-12 schools and community colleges.

Undergraduates at Pacific begin accelerated teacher education programs in the freshman year, engage continuously in both coursework and school-based clinical experiences prior to student teaching, and graduate in four years with both a bachelor’s degree and an initial California credential to teach. Graduate students earn Master’s, Specialist, and Doctoral degrees as career teachers, instructional specialists, school psychologists, and educational administrators. Threaded through all programs in the School is a learner-centered curriculum that blends rigorous content, continuing opportunities to apply theory to practice, knowledge and skills for working successfully with culturally and linguistically diverse students, and exceptionally rich opportunities to use technology for both teaching and learning.
