Student Advising Program
The mission of the Student Advising program is to:
- Aid students in the transition to the University of the Pacific community through open communication, support, and guidance in both academic and social opportunities;
- Assist students in becoming familiar with Pacific's values, resources, faculty and culture;
- Connect new students to the Pacific community with the intent to foster friendship, cooperation and leadership, while building a strong academic foundation with room for personal development; and
- Help student's define and develop educational and career goals that are consistent with their personal values, interests and talents.
In accordance with our mission, we strive to guide students with the following five values:
Our staff of approximately forty undergraduate student advisers are paraprofessional members of the Student Life staff and are comprised of students from a variety of majors, ethnicities and backgrounds. They are familiar with University life and can help you with your transition to life at Pacific. In addition, student advisers, working with faculty advisers, help students select and register for classes at Orientation and during their first few semesters. When appropriate, student advisers refer students to other campus resources to meet individual needs as well as host programs and events in order to educate students on university policies and services.
Areas of peer support include:
Time management, Academic transition, Preparing for tests, Choosing a major, Four-year plans, General education requirements, Homesickness, etc.
