Debate-day media opportunities in Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco

Media covering the April 25 U.S. Senate Debate at University of the Pacific are invited to the following debate-day activities in Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco:


  • Noon-1:30 p.m. Audrey Cooper, editor in chief of the San Francisco Chronicle, will talk with Pacific students about political journalism in the Vereschagin Alumni House library.
  • 4-6 p.m. Prominent policymakers from the San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento region will discuss the challenges facing California in a panel discussion before an audience of students and faculty. The event will take place in The Lair, a student pub, on the second floor of the DeRosa University Center. Organized by the Pacific Political Science Association.
  • 4:30-5:45 p.m. Pacific’s Speech and Debate Team, ranked No. 7 in the country, will host its own version of the debate for U.S. Senate in the Janet Leigh Theatre on campus. Debate team members will play the roles of the five candidates. Area high school debate teams and the public are invited to the free event.
  • 6-7:30 p.m. The Lair will host a watch party with free pizza following the panel discussion. Televisions in The Lair and throughout the DeRosa University Center will be tuned to live debate coverage.
  • 6-7:30 p.m. The debate will also be streamed live on the big screen in the Janet Leigh Theatre. High school students and community members are invited.


  • 5:30-7:30 p.m. Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law is hosting what is billed as the “Super Bowl of Debate Watch Parties” in rooms S-4/S-5 of Northwest Hall on the Sacramento Campus, 3200 Fifth Ave., Sacramento. The event is sponsored by the McGeorge Capital Center for Law and Policy and the Student Bar Association. The evening will start with a quick primer on federal issues from 5:30-6 p.m., followed by the watch party.

San Francisco

  • 6-7:30 p.m. Televisions on the first floor of the San Francisco Campus, 155 Fifth St., will be tuned to the debate for students, faculty and staff to watch as a community.
