Bhaskar Jasti is stepping down as Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Provost for Research. 
Dr. Jasti has served as Associate Provost since September 1, 2014, and served as interim Dean since August 2012. Dr. Jasti has expressed his desire to return to faculty and continue his excellent research and teaching.  He will be taking faculty development leave during the upcoming academic year.  Dr. Jasti has served the office well implementing several changes to strengthen the support for faculty research and improve graduate student support.  He will be stepping down in Fall 2015. It is with deep appreciation for his service in this office that we wish him all the best with his transition back to faculty and a well-earned sabbatical.

At this time we are accepting internal nominations for an Interim Dean of Graduate Studies and Assistant/Associate Provost for Research. 

Position Responsibilities:  Interim Dean of Graduate Studies and Assistant/Associate Provost for Research serves as the major university officer to advocate on behalf of graduate education and research, especially the development of collaborative and inter-disciplinary research as well practice based/applied research and scholarship. Concentrated promotion of cross-disciplinary research and scholarship. Develop and promote internal and external networks to advance programs and increase funding for research. Oversee the Graduate Studies Committee and the Office of Sponsored Programs, including intellectual property/patent issues and internal research awards. Ongoing research compliance may be handled by outside administration. The position reports directly to the Provost and is a member of the Provost Leadership Council.

This position will be a one year interim (or until filled) appointment, 80%-100% time. Please email nominations to Berit Gundersen, Associate Provost by May 15, 2015.  Self-nominations are welcome.   

Please join us in welcoming Christine Fluter-Brown, Associate Director of Research and Compliance
Christine recently joined the Office of Sponsored Research after interim leadership positions in both Student Leadership Development and the Women's Center. Christine supports multiple aspects of research and scholarship, including:

•   Facilitates university grants and contracts
•   Researches and identify funding prospects
•   Prepares proposal budgets
•   Submits proposals to university officials for approval
•   Submits proposals and other required documents to funding entities
•   Assists with electronic proposal submissions
•   Administers  research compliance programs and committees, including the Institutional Review Board for human subjects research
•   Hosts regular events to educate faculty and staff on external funding-related practices and research compliance
•   Enforces research compliance with federal, state, local and university policies and regulations
•   Manages several internal award programs, including research and conference travel awards for Pacific graduate students

Interviews for a Senior Grant Writer are underway
This position will provide support for the development of grant proposals (federal, state, corporate and foundation) with a particular emphasis on promoting interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary scholarship opportunities. This support includes assistance with editing and proofreading proposals, ensuring compliance with guidelines and requirements, sharing information about faculty research and activities and funding opportunities with Advancement and working with their staff to maximize identification of external funding opportunities.
