Two professors honored for teaching and scholarship at annual faculty awards dinner

At the seventh annual Faculty Awards Recognition Dinner, held November 11 in the Regents Room, Pacific honored two faculty members for their exemplary teaching and scholarship: Dr. Nejat Düzgüneş received the United Methodist University Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award, and Dr. Teresa Bergman was named the Faculty Research Lecturer. Congratulations to Dr. Düzgüneş and Dr. Bergman on receiving these awards!

Dr. Nejat Düzgüneş, 2015 United Methodist University Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award recipient
Dr. Nejat Düzgüneş is Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. He joined Pacific in 1990.  

The University Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of The United Methodist Church recognizes outstanding faculty members for their dedication and contributions to the learning arts and their institutions. Selection is based on exceptional teaching, concern for students and colleagues, scholarly contribution and high professional and personal standards.

Dr. Teresa Bergman, 2015 Faculty Research Lecturer

Dr. Teresa Bergman is Associate Professor and Graduate Director and Advisor for the Department of Communication in the College of the Pacific. She joined Pacific in 2006.  

Her primary research focus is on analyzing changing representations of nationalism, patriotism, citizenship and gender in the exhibits and documentary films in public history sites. She serves as associate editor for the Western Journal of Communication and the Women's Studies in Communication journals. Dr. Bergman's work brings honor and recognition to Pacific.  

The Faculty Research Lecturer award was established by the Faculty Research Committee to recognize faculty with a record of meritorious research or artistic contributions during their service at the University. Nominated and selected by their peers, recipients of this prestigious award also receive a monetary award.
