Undergraduate Academic Advisors

Academic advisors complement the work of faculty advisors and are a key part of students' educational journey. They assist students with academic-success strategies; exploring, declaring or changing a major or minor; tracking degree-completion progress in DegreeWorks; navigating policies and procedures; and connecting students to other campus resources, including care managers (who support students through personal challenges that may be interfering with their academic success).

Here are some of the ways academic advisors provide support to students:

  • Teach you how to use DegreeWorks to track your progress toward degree completion.
  • Work with you to create educational goals and an academic plan in DegreeWorks.
  • Assist you with understanding transfer unit articulation using ROAR.
  • Support you in understanding the academic requirements associated with financial aid.
  • Prepare you for course selection and registration appointments with your faculty advisor.
  • Assist you with deciding to add, drop or withdraw from your courses.
  • Guide you through university learning goals, requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Introduce and refer you to helpful campus services to support your goals.
  • Support you with improving your self-awareness and decision-making skills.
  • Make you aware of service-learning and out-of-classroom activities.
  • Offer workshops to explore interests, values, abilities and career goals.
