MA in Education - Counseling Psychology

Experts in the field of educational psychology help children learn in safe, healthy and supportive environments. Trained both psychology and education, these professionals apply their interdisciplinary skill-set to evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs, assess students' learning ability and partner with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to help students reach their full potential.

ABOUT THE CONCENTRATION
The MA in Counseling Psychology provides a foundation in counseling skills for those who wish to enter mental health fields. The program is grounded in experiential learning and helps students become thoughtful, self-reflective practitioners, researchers, and leaders. We also offer an increased competence in serving a culturally diverse society and teach you how to think critically and strategically, so you will be able to meet the diverse needs of the community you will serve. Students typically complete this concentration because they have a goal of being a mental health practitioner (i.e., Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor or School Psychologist).

CUTTING EDGE CURRICULUM
The concentration in Counseling Psychology is grounded in theoretical principles that will help the practitioner apply best practices with individuals, couples, and families. It also has an emphasis on experiential learning. Students typically complete this concentration because they have a goal of being a mental health practitioner (i.e., Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, School Psychologist, or Licensed Psychologist).

Students who continue to the Ed.S. program complete 33 units. These students will work towards a credential that will allow them to apply their interdisciplinary skill-set to evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs, assess students' learning abilities and partner with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to help students reach their full potential.

LICENSED PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL COUNSELOR - LPCC
Students enrolled in the MA in order to earn an LPCC complete 63 units and learn to help promote positive change for individuals and groups. Licensed professional clinical counselors (LPCC) offer treatment and counseling to those with mental health and substance abuse issues. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE LPCC

The LPCC program requires additional units in order to meet state licensure requirements to sit for the licensure examination
