Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Pacific. Our ACS-accredited department has a long-standing tradition of student-centered education. We offer classes in the core-curriculum of majors in chemistry, biochemistry, pre-pharmacy, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, biology, physics, physical therapy and engineering. In addition, we encourage our majors to take advantage of the chance to work one-on-one with our faculty on research projects.

Students earning chemistry or biochemistry degrees at Pacific can expect to receive training in all practical laboratory skills. These skills give our students confidence and a competitive edge as they enter the workplace or pursue graduate degrees. Senior students (BS) compete very well nationally for admission to the best professional schools and are very competitive in the employment market after graduation. Our graduate students (MS/PhD) have secured leading positions in industry and academia nationally and internationally.

In addition to classroom learning, students have many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in our laboratories. Our faculty care deeply about the students at Pacific and are available inside and outside the classroom. We hope you will explore our web pages to learn more about the chemistry department. Chemistry student Brinnley Barthels describes her experience in the chemistry department at Pacific:

You can find out what students have to say about our program on the Our Students page.

The Chemistry Stauffer Scholarship recipients showcased their summer research projects at the 2nd Annual Stauffer Symposium on August 9, 2019 (pictures). This year, there are six recipients in this program, which is the largest group of the students that the university has had since the receipt of the funding from the John Stauffer Charitable Trust.
