Pacific Humanities Scholars Program

The Pacific Humanities Scholars Program is an accelerated academic track dedicated to the promotion of humanities disciplines in academics and beyond. This program enables exemplary students majoring in fields including art and graphic design, English, Media X, modern languages, philosophy, and religious studies to complete their BA degree in only three years. It is designed to foster an intellectually rigorous and culturally rich community in which students can learn, grow, and thrive.

As part of this program, Humanities Scholars are encouraged to interact with the humanities outside of the classroom. Scholars enjoy field trips to world-class theater, dance, and opera performances, art exhibitions, symphonies, and more. Our students also benefit from access to internships and conferences, connections with a dedicated career counselor, and opportunities to continue their education abroad.

If you are a high-achieving student who gravitates toward the humanities disciplines, we encourage you to consider applying for the unique Pacific Humanities Scholars program. It is the only program of its kind in the nation, offering an accelerated and enriching educational experience along with a career and community focus.

Community and Passion

One of the primary goals of the Pacific Humanities Scholars Program is to create a powerful community among its members. During their studies, Humanities Scholars enjoy close relationships with students and faculty who are passionate about the humanities. Faculty and staff work closely with Humanities Scholars to:

  • Help students design their own majors and course of study
  • Provide extracurricular events, activities, field trips, and projects to encourage a deeper exploration of the Humanities disciplines
  • Understand the intersection of the Humanities with science, technology, and other fields
  • Challenge students' knowledge of culture, society, ethics, and justice
  • Facilitate career goals and aspirations

Beyond the Three-Year Plan

Although planning your course of academic study is central to our program, your post-graduation plans are equally important. From the very first day of classes, Pacific Humanities Scholars have the benefit of a personal career counselor. Dedicated exclusively to the Scholars program, your counselor helps to refine your focus, discover internship opportunities, and chart a course of action for success in today's highly competitive marketplace.

In order to prepare for graduate school or for the workforce, Scholars are encouraged to participate in research conferences and internship opportunities. Our Humanities Scholars have researched topics including Chinese street fashion, gender in the world of Shakespeare, and local impacts of the DACA repeal. Our Scholars have also participated in internship opportunities ranging from marketing with Pacific's office of communications to working with NASA.

Giving Back

Pacific Humanities Scholars are encouraged to use their education to help support their communities. Through community outreach and sustainability activities such as Habitat for Humanity, Save Our Shores, and Hope Street, our students cultivate an enduring capacity for empathy and social engagement.
