CVYS Concerto Competition

The Concerto Competition will take place on January 6, 2019.
Rules and Regulations      

Eligibility:
Applicants who play an orchestral instrument must:

  1. Be members in good standing of CVYS or spring semester orchestra applicants.  The competition is also open to singers, pianists, and instrumentalists not normally part of symphonic instrumentation: for example, the saxophone.
  2. Be born on or after January 1, 2000
  3. Reside in one of the following counties: Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin or Stanislaus.   

Repertoire:
Applicants may choose either the first or last movement of a concerto (including cadenzas) with orchestral accompaniment, or a single movement solo work with orchestral accompaniment.  The work chosen should be from the standard repertoire for that instrument and performed from memory.  Orchestral score and parts must be easily obtainable (purchase only) by CVYS.   

Applicants must provide three (3) copies of the solo part on the day of the competition.   

Accompanist:
Applicants shall provide their own accompanist, at their own expense for this competition.   

Miscellaneous: Applicants will be contacted with their approximate audition times.  Warm-up space  will be provided.  
The chosen candidate(s) to perform with CVYS will be notified within three (3) days of the  competition.  Other candidates will be notified by email within one week.  CVYS reserves the  right to make no selection if the adjudicators find no one qualified.   

Fees:
A non-refundable $50 application fee is required.

Dates:
Winning candidate(s) must be available:             

  • To perform with CVYS at their Spring Concert on May 5, 2019.             
  • To rehearse with CVYS at the dress rehearsal on April 30, 2019 and             
  • To rehearse with CVYS at as many Tuesday night rehearsals prior to the May 5,2019 concert as the Music Director deems necessary.      
  • Must join CVYS for the Spring Semester with tuition paid (if applicable).
