Tamara Maldonado  -  Chief Executive Officer & Technology Sector Analyst

Tamara Maldonado is a Stockton native in her senior year, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Economics and Applied Economics. For her second semester in the fund, she is the CEO and financial sector analyst. Upon graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in the public finance/ investment banking industry. Aside from finance, she's also very engaged at Pacific, serving as President of Gamma Alpha Omega and a student leader in the Community Involvement Program.

Jay Halva  -  Chief Operating Officer & Healthcare Sector Analyst

Jay Halva is a senior and Stockton native majoring in Finance at the Eberhardt school of business. In his second semester in the Student Investment Fund he is the Health Care Sector analyst and serves as the Chief Investment Officer. He is also a member of the UOP men’s water polo team.

Ash Rutherford -  Chief Operations Officer & Technology Sector Analyst

Born and raised in South Africa, Ash Rutherford is a senior at Pacific, pursing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration concentrating in Finance with an Economics Minor. In her first semester in the fund, Ash will hold the position of Chief Operations Officer and Technology Sector Analyst. Ash is a former Pacific Field Hockey Athlete as well as an active member of the Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Mortar Board Honor Societies.

Wajiha Tahir Chief Marketing Officer & Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst

Wajiha Tahir is a senior at University of the Pacific majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. For her first semester in Student Investment Fund, she will be taking on the role of a Consumer Discretionary Analyst & Chief Marketing Officer. Wajiha is involved on campus in the Community Involvement Program, CIPSA, MSA, and the VP of Social and Web Development for Pacific Society of Women in Business. Post-graduation, Wajiha intends to pursue a career in the Technology or Marketing industry!

Keith Sera Economist & REIT's Sector Analyst

Keith Sera is currently in his third year at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in Applied Economics with a minor in Business Administration. It is Keith’s first semester in the fund and he is serving as the Economist and as an analyst in the REITs sector. He currently serves as the President for both the Nikkei Student Union and the Interfraternity Council on campus. Post graduating, Keith hopes to pursue a career in Finance or Investments, in addition to working towards his MBA.

Ismael A. Barrios is currently a fourth-year student, enrolled in the College of the Pacific studying mathematics. He is a student leader/scholar of the Community Involvement Program and is a brother of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Sam Olmstead - Executive Administrator & Consumer Staples Sector Analyst

Sam Olmstead is a senior at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. It is Sam’s first semester in the fund and is serving as an analyst in the Consumer Staples Sector. Aside from completing his undergraduate degree at UOP, he is also a part of Pi Kappa Alpha, where he is currently the Vice President of Membership Development. Post-graduation, Sam hopes to pursue a career as an Investment Banker, Financial Analyst, or Wealth Management Advisor.

Alex Kalfayan -  Portfolio Manager & Energy/Utilities Sector Analyst

Alex Kalfayan is currently a senior at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. It is Alex's first semester in the fund and he is serving as the Portfolio Manager and as an analyst for both the Energy and Utilities sector. He has served as the Treasure for his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha. Post-graduation, Alex hopes to pursue a career in wealth management and become a Financial Advisor.

Kabir Bhandaal - Information Officer & Materials Sector Analyst

Kabir Bhandaal is a senior currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Human Resource Management. For his first semester in the student investment fund, he will be serving as the fund’s Information office, as well as the Materials sector analyst. Kabir is involved in the National Society of Leadership and Success where he previously served as President. He is also involved in the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity where he served as Sergeant of Arms for the chapter. Post-graduation, Kabir plans to pursue a career in Commercial Real Estate.

Helen Mills - Social Media Coordinator & Industrial Sector Analyst

Helen Mills is currently pursuing her Masters in Business Administration. In her first semester in the fund, Helen will hold the position of Industrials Sector Analyst and Social Media Coordinator. She graduated from Eberhardt School of Business in 2017, and during that time she was Assistant Director of Finance for Alpha Phi.

Yahav Shahaff - Materials Sector Analyst

Yahav Shahaff was born and raised in Israel. He moved to California at the age of 20 after serving in the Israeli military for 3 years. In 2018, Yahav completed his B.S. in Accounting and Finance at the University of the Pacific and currently he is enrolling at the University's MBA program and he will hold the position of industrial sector analyst. Yahav was a professional swimmer, national record holder for Israel and was part of the Israeli national team for 10 years.

Brinnley Barthels - Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst 

Brinnley Barthels is in her final semester of earning her Master of Business Administration. She graduated from Pacific in 2018 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a member of the Women’s Water Polo team. She will pursue Dentistry after her MBA. Brinnley is the Sector Analyst in Consumer Discretionaries for the fund.

Ben Carlston, PhD - Faculty Advisor

Expertise: Empirical Asset Pricing; Financial Economics; Applied Econometrics. Ben Carlston is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Eberhardt School of Business. Dr. Carlston received his Ph.D. in Economics, with an emphasis on Financial Econometrics, from Duke University.

During his time at Duke University, Dr. Carlston taught undergraduate courses in Corporate Finance, Investments, and Intermediate Microeconomics. He is currently engaged in research evaluating the accuracy of several stock price volatility measures that rely on high-frequency price data. His other research focuses on better understanding liquidity risk and volatility risk and their link to expected stock returns and macroeconomic variables.
