Ash Rutherford - Chief Executive Officer & Financial Sector Sector Analyst

Born and raised in South Africa, Ash Rutherford is a senior at Pacific, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration concentrating in Finance with an Economics Minor. In her second semester in the fund, Ash will hold the position of Chief Executive Officer and Financials Sector Analyst. Ash is a former Pacific Field Hockey Athlete as well as an active member of the Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Mortar Board Honor Societies.

Wajiha Tahir  Chief Investment Officer & REITs Sector Analyst

Wajiha Tahir is a senior at the University of the Pacific majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. For her second semester in the Student Investment Fund, she will be taking on the role of a Chief Investment Officer and an analyst in the REITs sector. Wajiha is involved on campus in the Community Involvement Program, CIPSA, MSA, Elections Committee, and the Social Media Ambassador for the Eberhardt School of Business. Post-graduation, Wajiha intends to pursue a career in the Technology or Marketing industry!

Mandeep Chhabra Chief Operating Officer & Financial Sector Analyst

Mandeep Chhhabra a senior graduating in May with a BS in Applied Economics and a BS in Business, concentrating in Economics and Finance. Returning to the fund as its Chief Operating Officer, he is the senior financial analyst for the Financial sector. Outside of the fund, Mandeep has served as president of Sigma Chi and is an active member of Delta Sigma Pi as well. Post-graduation, he will start work at the Clorox Company as a cost analyst and aims to obtain graduate degrees in quantitative finance and data science.

Christopher Hall - Chief Marketing Officer & Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst

Christopher Hall is a senior at the University of the Pacific with a major in Business Administration and a concentration in Management Information Systems. In the Student Investment Fund this semester, he will take the role of a Consumer Discretionary Analyst and Chief Marketing Officer. Christopher is involved as an ambassador of the We Love You Foundation and Solids & Stripes Pool club. Post-graduation, Christopher intends to pursue a career in the Technology industry.

Arianna Posada - Social Media Coordinator & Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst

Ariana Posada is a Stockton native in her junior year at the University of the Pacific majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. For her first semester in the fund, she is the Consumer Discretionary Analyst and Social Media Coordinator. She currently serves as president of Dome of Hope and VP of Professional Activities of Delta Sigma Pi. Post-graduation, Ariana hopes to pursue a career in finance.

Brandon Rankin  -  Portfolio Manager & Technology Sector Analyst

Brandon Rankin is a senior graduating in May of 2020 at the University of the Pacific with a degree in Economics. For his first semester in the Student Investment Fund, he will be serving as a Portfolio Manager, and as an Analyst in the Information Technology sector. Outside of school, Brandon trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where he earned his blue belt last October. Post-graduation, Brandon intends to pursue a career in the Financial or Technology industry as a data analyst.

Jesus Montero  -  Portfolio Manager & Technology Sector Analyst

Jesus Montero is a senior at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance with a minor in Economics. For his second semester in the Student Investment Fund, he will be taking on the role of the Portfolio Manager & Technology Sector Analyst. Aside from completing his undergraduate degree at UOP, he is also involved in the Community Involvement Program and Beta Alpha Psi. Post-graduation, Jesus hopes to pursue a career as an Investment Banker, Financial Analyst, or Wealth Management Advisor.

Karina Solorio-Lopez - Executive Administrator & Consumer Discretionary Sector Analyst

Karina Solorio-Lopez is a junior at the University of the Pacific majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Economics. This is Karina’s first semester in the Student Investment Fund, she will be an analyst for the Consumer Discretionary sector as well as the Executive Administrator. Karina currently works in the Financial Aid office and is also a Teacher’s Assistant for Computer Science. After graduation, Karina hopes to pursue a career as a financial analyst, as well as obtaining a Master’s in Finance.

Keith Sera - Economist & Consumer Staples Sector Analyst

Keith Sera is currently in his senior year at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in Applied Economics with a minor in Business Administration. It is Keith’s second semester in the fund, and he is serving as an Economist and as an Analyst in the Consumer Staples sector while previously analyzing the REITs sector. He currently serves as the President for the Nikkei Student Union and is the former President of the Interfraternity Council on campus. Keith is currently working as an Accounting Intern for Five Star Bank in Roseville. Upon graduating, Keith hopes to pursue a career in Finance or Investments, in addition to working towards an MBA.

Edward Chavez-Askew - Economist & Financial Sector Analyst

Eduardo Chavez-Askew is a senior at the University of the Pacific pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Law. For his first semester in the Student Investment Fund, he will be taking on the role of the Economist and Financial Sector Analyst. He is also involved with the Sigma Chi fraternity. Lastly, he plans to pursue law school upon graduation focusing on contracts and corporations.

Sigrid Aas -  Health Care Sector Analyst

Sigrid Aas is a senior at the University of the Pacific pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. In her second semester in the fund, Sigrid will hold the position of Health Care Sector Analyst. Aside from completing her undergraduate degree at UOP, she is also a member of the Women’s Soccer Team. Post-graduation, her ambition is to further her studies by earning a master’s in finance.

Wyatt Barker Utilities Sector Analyst

Wyatt Barker is a senior at the University of the Pacific, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. For his first semester in the Student Investment Fund, he will be taking on the role of a Utilities Sector Analyst. Wyatt is a member of the Pacific men's water polo team and the Pacific Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PSAAC). Post-graduation, Wyatt intends to pursue a Master's in Finance or a job search in investment banking, private equity or venture capital.

Francesco Lavecchia -  Energy Sector Analyst

Francesco Lavecchia is a senior at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance. It is Francesco’s first semester in the fund, and he is serving as an Analyst in the Energy Sector. Francesco is also a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity where he previously served as treasurer for a year. Francesco hopes to eventually pursue a career in corporate finance or risk management.

Marcus Patel - Materials Sector Analyst

Marcus Patel is currently in his last semester at the University of the Pacific, pursuing a B.S. in Accounting and a Master of Accounting and a B.S. in Business Administration concentrating in Finance with a minor in Economics. In his first semester in the fund, Marcus will hold the position of Materials Sector Analyst. Marcus is also involved in the Stockton community as a Tax Preparer for low to moderate-income families. Post-graduation, Marcus intends to pursue a career in Accounting or Finance.

Sam Olmstead - Industrials Sector Analyst

Sam Olmstead is a senior at the University of the Pacific and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. It is Sam’s second semester in the fund and is serving as an Analyst in the Industrials Sector. Aside from completing his undergraduate degree at UOP, he is also a part of Pi Kappa Alpha, where he is currently the Vice President of Membership Development. Post-graduation, Sam hopes to pursue a career as an Investment Banker, Financial Analyst, or Wealth Management Advisor.

Sumit Gondal - Industrial Sector Analyst

Sumit Gondal is a Senior majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and Finance. She is currently serving as an Industrial Sector Analyst. Sumit is involved in many organizations on campus. She is currently the President for Sikh Student Association and the Vice President of Pledge Education for the Professional Business Fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi.

Mark Carganilla - Technology Sector Analyst

Mark Carganilla is a Senior at the University of the Pacific majoring in Business Administration in Accounting. He will be graduating in December 2020 with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. For his first semester in the Student Investment Fund, he will be taking on the role of the Technology Sector Analyst. Post-graduation, Mark wants to pursue a career as a CPA and eventually own multiple businesses in the future.

Christopher Cardenas - REITs Sector Analyst

Christopher Cardenas is a Junior at the University of the Pacific double majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Applied Economics. For his first semester in the Student Investment Fund, he will be taking on the role of Real Estate Analyst and Information Officer. Chris is involved on campus as the Vice President of the social fraternity Sigma Chi, Assistant Pledge Ed of the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, and member of the business honors society Beta Gamma Sigma. Post-graduation, Chris intends to pursue a career in the finance industry which will hopefully provide him with the income to eventually fund educational and support programs for broken families and underprivileged children.

Ben Carlston, PhD - Faculty Advisor

Expertise: Empirical Asset Pricing; Financial Economics; Applied Econometrics. Ben Carlston is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Eberhardt School of Business. Dr. Carlston received his Ph.D. in Economics, with an emphasis on Financial Econometrics, from Duke University.

During his time at Duke University, Dr. Carlston taught undergraduate courses in Corporate Finance, Investments, and Intermediate Microeconomics. He is currently engaged in research evaluating the accuracy of several stock price volatility measures that rely on high-frequency price data. His other research focuses on better understanding liquidity risk and volatility risk and their link to expected stock returns and macroeconomic variables.
