Thomas Naehr joined Pacific as the Dean of the Graduate School in July 2017, after having served as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) since 2013. Naehr had been at TAMU-CC as a tenured faculty member of the Geology and Environmental Science program and Harte Research Associate since 2000. From 2003 to 2009, he served as the Program Coordinator for the Geology Program, where he was instrumental in reshaping the geology undergraduate curriculum, and as TAMU-CC's Coastal and Marine System Sciences Program Coordinator from 2015 to 2017. In 2007, Naehr was named Oceanography and Climate Research Fellow by the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study in Delmenhorst, Germany.

Prior to his tenure at TAMU-CC, Dean Naehr began his academic career as a post-doctoral fellow at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute in California in 1998. He earned his PhD in Marine Geology from the IfM-GEOMAR Research Center for Marine Geoscience, Kiel, Germany in 1996, and a Diplom (MS) in Geology and Paleontology from Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen, Germany in 1993.

Dean Naehr’s research interests include the cycling of methane and other hydrocarbons in the marine environment. During his academic career, he sailed on more than a dozen offshore research expeditions, contributed to more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals, and presented his research to a wide variety of audiences.
