Civil Engineering/Engineering Management (CE/EM) Scholarship

In 2015, the School of Engineering and Computer Science established the Civil Engineering/Engineering Management (CE/EM) Scholarship, thanks to Dr. Jim Morgali, former Civil Engineering professor and Founding Director of the Engineering Management program. The CE/EM scholarship helps students who have significant and unmet financial need so that they can complete their engineering degree.

Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, faculty, friends and students, we raised the minimum $50,000 to reach the Powell Match! That means, any additional funds raised are now automatically matched. Learn about some of the scholarship recipients below:

Joey McElhany

Joey McElhany (CE '17)
A local Stocktonian, Joey graduated from Pacific in 2017 with his BS in Civil Engineering. During his time at the university, he worked at KANE GeoTech, a local geotechnical engineering firm and he joined them after graduation.

"Thank you for selecting me as a previous recipient of this scholarship. This was the first scholarship I received! This scholarship has helped me not only financially but helped my endeavor to graduate from an amazing university and become a competent and ethical future civil engineer."

Sara Weimer Sara Weimer (CE '19)
From the small town of Placerville, CA, Sara intends to graduate from Pacific in 2019 with a degree in Civil Engineering. She worked at Teichert as an Engineering Associate and completed her CO-OP as a Water Design Engineer at HDR, Inc.

"I couldn't thank the scholarship committee, alumni, Powell Family, and associates enough for the scholarship I received in 2016. Without your support, I would not be able to afford college at all. Your kindness has allowed me to attend college and grow as an engineer. I would not be where I am today without your efforts."
Jose Ruvalcaba (CE '18)
Jose was born in Mexico and grew up in Oakland, CA. He later moved to Tracy where he now lives with his wife and two sons. He transferred to Pacific in 2015 and did his CO-OP at BKF Engineers where he assisted engineers in plan production and drafted construction details on AutoCAD for land development projects.

"At 40, balancing family and engineering school can be challenging. There have been multiple occasions on wanting to give up. I am glad I didn't give up. My wife and two sons are my driving force and motivation."
