From the Desk of Kate & Allen

Office of Professional Programs

Dear Preceptors,

We are excited to introduce the first edition of University of the Pacific’s quarterly pharmacy practice experiential programs newsletter.

We believe student development in the practice environment is paramount. In pursuance of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education’s accreditation standards, one-third of our doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum is experiential. Pacific is proud of our decentralized experiential structure. We place faculty in strategic regions to more effectively support students and preceptors in our Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) programs.

Our experiential faculty are dedicated to the highest accreditation and practice standards. Their ongoing goal is to develop and implement best practices for experiential education. You and your fellow preceptors are exemplary practitioners. You offer our PharmD students exceptional learning experiences to enhance their fundamental knowledge, practice skills and professional attributes.

In this issue, we recognize the outstanding contributions of Mark P. Walberg ’06, ’09, PharmD, PhD, CTH and welcome Amber Miller, PharmD and Tricia New ’84, PharmD, BCNSP, the newest members of our experiential team. Future issues will spotlight IPPE and APPE preceptors of the year.

We sincerely thank you for your partnership and dedication in our shared vision of training ethical, professional, and practice-ready pharmacists.

Sincerely,

Allen Shek, PharmD
Associate Dean of Professional Programs, Professor of Pharmacy Practice

Kate O'Dell, PharmD, BCPS, FCSHP
Director of Experiential Programs, Professor of Pharmacy Practice
