Department of Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry

About the Program

Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry provides broad training for careers in the pharmaceutical industry, academia and governmental positions. Students may acquire experience in an industrial setting through cooperative work projects or internships with biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies. For students interested in an academic career in higher education, opportunities exist to gain experience in teaching and administering a variety of laboratory and lecture courses. Our programs are designed to allow faculty and students to develop close working relationships throughout the student's training while providing a high degree of flexibility in the selection of individual courses of study and research projects.

Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry facilities include several specialized laboratories for performing specific types of studies using modern techniques in:

  • controlled-release drug delivery/novel dosage forms
  • organic synthesis
  • computational chemistry
  • nuclear pharmacy
  • pharmacokinetics modeling
  • molecular biology
  • industrial pharmacy

Additional possibilities for the use of other types of specific equipment exists in University departments located in and outside the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy.

Pacific will be offering a Master of Science in Industrial Pharmaceutics in collaboration with Alliance Institute.
