Graduating students presented their final projects at the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.pacific.edu\/engineering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School of Engineering and Computer Science<\/a> Senior Project Day on May 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event showcased over 40 innovative research and engineering projects designed by students representing all eight SOECS programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One team designed and built a prosthetic limb for a dog who lost its leg in a car accident. Although the project was a great hands-on and collaborative experience, being able to work out a real-life solution was the best motivation for participating students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving an overall goal to help this dog be able to walk was definitely a motivation for us,\u201d said bioengineering major Evelyn Sanchez. \u201cAnd it definitely felt like the work that we were doing was fulfilling something greater than just a senior project.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student\u2019s work was judged by the SOECS Industrial Advisory Board, made up of SOECS alumni and other industry professionals. The seven winning projects were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bioengineering: <\/strong>Joaquin Gonzalez, Vicky Guan, Chelsea Igtanloc and Kaung Khant Pyae Sone<br>Gradiotronics \u2013 a pressure sensor array that can be used for rehabilitation purposes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Civil Engineering: <\/strong>Joseph Quarshie, Max Ninomiya, Alejandro Aguilera and Robert Gibbons<br>Fairfield Fire Station No. 39 \u2013 an eco-engineering approach to renovation and relocation of a local fire station<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer Science (individual project):<\/strong> Murad Haider<br>Futures Trading Algorithm \u2013 an algorithmic trading system that navigates complexities of high frequency futures trading<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer Science (group project): <\/strong>Jordan Somers, Sage Lee and Michelle Vu<br>Chrome Wrapped \u2013 a Chrome extension to improve browsing history experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering &amp; Engineering Physics:<\/strong> Michael Dubie, Will Efstratis, Thor McAvenia and Daniil Vassiliev<br>Hands Free Human Computer Interface Device \u2013 a device that improves accessibility to computers for people with impaired mobility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engineering Management: <\/strong>Yu Chen Hsiao, Nabeel Hussain, Amelia Nish and Jeyrik Paduga<br>Shakey Wakey \u2013 an alarm clock integrated with a pillow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mechanical Engineering<\/strong>: Richard Jerue, Leon Tran, Brian Winchester and Ryan Zapp<br>Hurricane Powered Wind Turbine \u2013 a turbine capable of producing energy harvested from extreme hurricane
