Gender Equity Center

Founded by volunteers in 2006, revamped in 2009, first director appointed in 2010!

In addition to being a welcoming drop-in center stocked with referral information and free necessities such as menstrual products and condoms, the Gender Equity Center (GEC) provides various programming for issues that impact the lives of students and community members. These issues include, but are not limited to: academic success and career development; health and wellness (including sexual and reproductive health); sexual assault and gender based violence prevention and support services; and personal empowerment and the celebration of frequently-marginalized identities. 

We are located inside the Intercultural Student Success on the ground level of the McCaffrey Center.


The GEC aims to increase awareness and scholarship regarding gender issues, to celebrate and cultivate leadership for students both at Pacific and in the greater community, and to empower students to be active participants in bringing about social change.


To create and sustain a university which works collaboratively to improve the educational and professional experiences of Pacific's diverse body students, faculty, and staff, and which engages meaningfully with leaders in education, government, business, and the non-profit sector to improve the status of women identified individuals throughout the local community.

Core Values

Human rights—We are motivated by the basic truth that folks of all genders are equally deserving of respect and are inherently of equal worth. As society continues to privilege cis-gender men as a group, we must continue to strive to achieve these rights.

Self-determination and Bodily Integrity—We respect the ability and right of both men and women, both individually and collectively, to make decisions about their own lives and bodies.

Safety—All members of the campus community have the right to live, study, and work in an environment of safety and dignity.

Student Development—A focus on the active learner and the notion of the educational experience as one of engagement and interaction is one of the key pedagogical innovations of feminist approaches to teaching and learning.

Intersectionality—We honor the uniqueness of each person's lived experience and the intersection of gender with one's relationships to racial identity, class, ancestry, place of origin, language, color, ethnicity, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status, and dis/ability.

Diversity and Inclusion—We seek to promote the inclusion and the influence of diverse voices and perspectives on our work, priorities, and decisions.

Responsible Leadership—In our efforts to promote positive institutional and social change we will be guided by principles of transparency, fairness, accountability, and integrity.

Goals and Responsibilities

Contribute to the GEC's mission of creating a welcoming environment which values and supports diversity and inclusion for students of all backgrounds and social identities

Seek out collaboration  and cooperation across divisions and departments to create a strong presence for the GEC on campus and in the larger community

Engage differences in a way that allows students to learn from the diversity of perspectives, experiences, and traditions that exist within the University

Create an environment that supports social justice and a socially responsible way of being

Recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of all students and members of the University community
