University of the Pacific is a nationally ranked comprehensive university and California’s first chartered institution of higher learning. Established in 1851, Pacific has nearly 6,300 students and 10 schools and colleges across three campuses in northern California.
 
The majority of students and the Division 1 athletics program are based on the Stockton Campus, often cited as one of the nation’s most beautiful college campuses. The Sacramento Campus in California’s state capital is home to the McGeorge School of Law, the new School of Health Sciences and an array of graduate programs while the renowned Dugoni School of Dentistry is based on the downtown San Francisco Campus.

The Position

The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for creating and implementing social media campaigns and content that engages users and builds, retains and deepens their relationships with the university to build its national presence and positive reputation. The specialist will develop a social media strategy/plan that includes monitoring and measuring the university’s reputation on social media through data analysis and enhances or modifies strategies to achieve defined goals.

The Social Media Specialist will be a key member of the University Strategic Communications team and will report to the AVP of Strategic Communications, working closely with leaders in digital communications, media relations, internal communications and community relations. The specialist will have a deep understanding of branding and its relationship and application to social media and digital communications to attract prospective students and families, and engage employees, donors, alumni, supporters and key influencers to become advocates and champions.

The successful candidate will be a passionate and energetic storyteller, a versatile creative communicator, and a well-respected team player, committed to continually improve the university’s social media presence and practices.

The Department

University Strategic Communications advances and promotes awareness, understanding and support of the university’s mission, vision and accomplishments. Our award-winning team of writers, editors, designers, photographers/videographers, digital professionals and communications leaders creates inspiring content and engaging experiences that elevate Pacific’s unique brand of personalized learning and professional pathways.

Our role leverages our expertise in external and internal communications, media relations and issues management, community relations, digital and social media and web strategy. We oversee the university’s brand identity including graphic design, photography/videography and print and digital publications.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related discipline.
  • Five (5) years of social media experience.

Preferred

  • Strong writing, editing, photography/videography skills.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize projects.
  • Video editing and experience in producing content for video platforms such as YouTube and IGTV.
  • Experience using various analytics software.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, such as Drupal.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization and best practices.
  • Experience using social media platforms.
