The fabrication of synthetic biomaterials that rival the complexity and function of their natural counterparts represents an outstanding challenge in the field of biomolecular self-assembly. In this talk, I will discuss our recent progress on employing unexplored peptide building block designs for creating hierarchical 2D and 3D nanomaterials with tailorable physical and chemical properties. New assembly strategies, which are enabled by the novel peptide constructs, will also be discussed. The development of these new design and assembly strategies will significantly expand the application scope and utility of peptide-based assemblies.
