Basketball Skills Academy

Improve your skills on and off the court

The basketball skills academy will combine learning and enhancing individual skills and team concepts on the court with classroom sessions and film breakdown off the court. On the court, you will learn how to use your strengths and improve your weaknesses, as well as how to use those strengths for the benefit of the team. In the classroom, you will learn leadership techniques and how to bring out the best in others, as well as working on your competitive mindset and learning how to sustain it on a daily basis.

Curriculum

Skills taught will include dribbling, passing, shooting and rebounding:

  • Dribble/pass, developing your non-dominant hand
  • Use combo moves on the perimeter and counters on the block to create an advantage
  • Make the correct reads and decisions out of advantage situations
  • Improve your shooting technique with footwork and form
  • Refine or create your free throw routine
  • Learn techniques to enable you to offensive and defensive rebound effectively.

Planned Topics

Planned topics include:

  • Classroom meetings to discuss leadership and mental toughness
  • Film breakdown of students' own skills, along with film of college and professional players and situations
  • One-on-one and small-group training sessions with coaches on the court, for individual skill development
  • Group drills to enforce and repeat the learned skills for improvement
  • One-on-one, two-on-two, three-on-three, four-on-four and five-on-five games
