Gesine Gerhard is a Professor of History at University of the Pacific. She is currently the Director of General Education and Associate Dean in the College. Her research focuses on agricultural history, food policy during World War 2 and the Nazi period. She has published numerous book chapters and articles in academic journals. Her book on "Nazi Hunger Politics: A History of Food in the Third Reich" appeared in 2015 with Rowman & Littlefield Press. The book looks at the central role food played for the Nazi regime, and how food policy became genocidal during the murderous invasion of the Soviet Union. Using unique historical documents such as letters and diaries, the book tells the story of the men who implemented the food policies that led to the death of millions of Soviet citizens of war and civilians.
