Music and Shows
- Pacific’s conservatory alumna Taylor Carnes ’19 is the assistant director in The Glimmerglass Festival‘s production of “Carmen” in Cooperstown, NY, July 16 – Aug. 21. This show is co-produced with Minnesota Opera.
- Mezzo soprano Hannah Ludwig ’14 performs in New York City with Teatro Nuovo in Gioachino Rossini’s “Maometto Secondo” on July 13.
- Music educator and band and choral conductor Paul Kimball ’85 is music director and orchestra conductor for the classic Broadway show “Gypsy” at the Stockton Community Theatre through July 17.
Books
- Business expert and YouTuber Ed Mylett majored in communication at Pacific. He wrote the best-selling book “The Power of One More: The Ultimate Guide to Happiness and Success.”
- Professor of history Ken Albala has authored, edited and co-authored dozens of books on food. Indulge in one of his easily digestible works such as “Noodle Soup: Recipes, Techniques,” “Obsession; Beans: A History,” or “Three World Cuisines: Italian, Mexican, Chinese.”
Sports
- Check the summer baseball schedules if you’d like to see Pacific alumni “play ball.”
- Left fielder and shortstop Brett Sullivan ’15 is with Triple A San Diego Padres in El Paso, Texas.
- Second baseman and shortstop Wyatt Hoffman ’21 plays in Minors for the San Diego Padres High A in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
- Patrick Weigal ’15 pitches for Tacoma Rainiers PCL in Washington State.
- University of the Pacific will host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Summer Circuit July 16-18. Several female tennis players will compete representing WCC Pacific Tigers.
- If you’re near California beaches in Santa Cruz, Santa Monica, Monterey, Manhattan Beach or Huntington Beach, go see Pacific athlete Hania Taduran ’24 compete in the California Beach Volleyball Association’s tournaments in July and August.
- Pacific Tigers are playing on several soccer teams across the United States. Check the teams’ game schedules to learn where you can see them this summer:

- Defender Abby Wolf ’22, midfielder Jaida Nyby ’23, Jenae Packard ’22 and center-back Cam Scully ’22 play for Tormenta FC.
- Defender Hana Rosenblatt ’23 and forward Laila Saravia ’24 play for FC Davis.
Films
- Screenwriter Jorge Ramirez-Martinez ‘08 wrote several episodes for the TV series “Selena: The Series”(2020-21) and for “The Blacklist: Redemption” (2017). Watch them on Netflix.
- Actress Janet Leigh ’47 starred in many acclaimed movies, but she is best known for her shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” Celebrate her birthday month, July, by rewatching this influential horror flick.
- Emmy-winning screen score composer Larry Groupe ’79 wrote music for several renowned movies such as “Line of Fire,” “The Contender,” “Commander in Chief” and most recently “The Outpost” (2019). Groupe also worked with rock band Yes, co-composing 10 original songs for their album “Magnification.”
Tigers Abroad
- Music composition majors Noah Granard ’22 and Wyatt Cannon ’22 have been commissioned to compose new music for the renowned VIPA festival in Spain. Their works will be performed at the festival through July 16.
- Find several Pacific Tigers competing for the Canada National Team in the Water Polo World League Super Finals in Strasbourg, France, July 22-27. Pacific representation includes both current students and alumni.
- Pacifican Aniela Jensen is playing for New Zealand U-20 National Football Team, who qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022.
