Missing school yet? Don’t get me wrong, break is great and relaxing, but after a while the days can feel long and start to drag. I’ve also been missing my daily trips to Starbucks or Trail.
If you’ve found yourself bored and itching to get back to school, maybe it’s time to spice things up and try something new. As someone who enjoys people-watching, I’ve compiled a list of activities to try based on your coffee shop order. Don’t worry, there is no judgement here. I constantly change my order and appreciate all types of joe!
If you like a simple drip coffee…
You must be someone who has their life together, or at least you make it appear that way to an outsider. Although some may call you a psychopath, you know that deep down they are jealous of your elite taste.
Winter break could be the perfect time to try a new workout or get a head start on preparing for 2023. Whether it’s Pilates or kickboxing, now is a great time to find something new. Take advantage of the winter discounts and promotions offered by your local gyms and workout facilities.
If you’re satisfied with your exercise routine, investigate internships for the spring and summer. Early bird gets the worm, so start researching potential opportunities and tidying up your LinkedIn profile.
Maybe a fun flavored latte is more your style…
From a classic vanilla to exciting seasonal flavors, the customizations are boundless. The delicious blend of espresso and milk is hard to beat.
If you’re artsy, just like your latte art, try tackling a new craft. Unleash your creativity and be ready to get messy. Whether it’s knitting, painting, pottery or upcycling clothes, the possibilities are endless. If you find yourself stuck, use Pinterest as a vision board to get started.
Or perhaps you’re a cold brew fan…
Look at you go, choosing an iced beverage in the midst of winter! Maybe you’re reminiscing on summer, or you just love the smoothness of a good brew. Regardless, you know exactly what you want and go after it.
Plan a spontaneous trip to the mountains or the sea. Grab some friends and leave society behind for a few hours or days and enjoy what nature has to offer. If you’re stuck at home, start making plans for spring or summer break. The earlier you start budgeting and booking your flights, the cheaper they will be.
If you opt for tea instead…
You’re probably a chill person whose life does not require extra caffeine. Or you’re in your grandma/pa era.
Either way, curl up with a nice cup of hot tea, a pair of fuzzy socks and a new book to beat the cold. Head over to your local library or bookstore to find your next obsession. Consider a new author or explore a new genre.
Mainstream titles are dependable and safe, but the hidden gems scattered throughout the shelves could lead to a new discovery. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is my most recent read, and I highly recommend it.
I hope this gave you some ideas for activities to try and hobbies to pick up over break. Despite what it may feel like, boredom is not incurable. Make the most of the freedom and free time you have now before returning to the responsibilities of school!
