Established in 1982, the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding former Pacific athletes and teams. This year's inductees are Cindy Ball '02 (Softball), Kit Follmer '78 (Men's Water Polo), Nick Holt '86 (Football), Jane Romberg-Geiger '84 (Women's Basketball) along with the 2001 softball team. With this year's class, the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame will have honored 237 individuals and 26 teams in its 31-year history.
As part of this special evening, the 2013-14 Pacific Tigers Student-Athletes of the Year Awards will be presented. This evening of celebration and recognition provides a unique opportunity for connecting Pacific's heritage of outstanding athletic alumni and Hall of Famers with the current generation of exceptional student-athletes.
Induction ceremonies and the annual awards banquet will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Alex G. Spanos Center on the Pacific campus. Following are brief biographical sketches of the 2013-14 Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame inductees.
Cindy Ball (1999-2002)
Cindy Ball is considered the greatest-two way player in the history of Pacific Softball, earning All-American honors as well as Big West Pitcher of the Year designation in 2001 and 2002. Ball is the program's career leader in innings pitched, wins, saves, strikeouts and shutouts. Following her playing career, Ball was part of the Pacific coaching staff from 2002-2006, while also spending time playing professionally in Italy and in the United States. Ball is currently an assistant coach for the Cal State Northridge program.
Christopher Follmer (1974-78)
Christopher "Kit" Follmer was a four-year starter in Water Polo, earning All-American honors in 1975. Follmer is currently the CEO of Follmer Development, a manufacturing company in Southern California. Kit remains active in the sport, participating in the USA Water Polo Masters program since 2004. His son, Alec, is a redshirt sophomore on the Pacific Water Polo team.
Nick Holt (1983-86)
Nick Holt was a stalwart of the Tigers defense under head coach Bob Cope. Holt was the team's team captain and defensive MVP in 1984, in addition to First team All-PCAA and Honorable Mention All-American in 1985. Holt has 27 years of collegiate coaching experience, including seven BCS bowl trips and an Associated Press National Championship with USC. Holt is currently the defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky University, after previously spending time as an assistant with the Washington Huskies.
Jane Romberg-Geiger (1980-85)
Jane Romberg-Geiger was as a three time All-Conference selection at Pacific, and is in the program's top ten in field goals made, free throws made, rebounds, blocked shots and double-doubles. She scored 1,226 career points, which ranks 12th all-time. The Tigers won 69 games in her five years at Pacific, including a 20 win season in her freshman campaign.
2001 Softball Team
The 2001 Pacific Softball team reached 50 wins en route to a 50-13 overall mark, including a 16-5 record in Big West Conference play. The 50 wins remains best single season mark in program history. The team reached the NCAA Regionals, going 3-2 with wins over Central Michigan and Stanford, before falling to Stanford 9-1 in the double-elimination format. Cindy Ball was named to the NFCA All-America Third Team following the season, Estee Okumura and Adrienne Ratajczak were named to the NFCA All-West Region squad while Brian Kolze was named the Big West and NFCA West Regional Coach of the Year.
