Know Your Staff Handbook: Donating sick time

Due to catastrophic, serious and/or extended illness, from time to time individual Pacific staff members exhaust all of their available time accruals. The University policy allows for employees who have accrued large amounts of sick time to donate some of their accrued sick-time hours to assist employees in need. Recipients may receive a maximum of 20 days per calendar year (on a rolling basis) and must have qualified for short-term disability.

In order to contribute, donors must meet the following criteria:

  • Donations must be given in increments equivalent to the donor's regularly scheduled workday
  • Donors may contribute a maximum of 5 days to each recipient in any year
  • Donors must retain 2 years of accrued sick leave after donation (i.e. 40 hr week staff member must have 192 hours after donation)
