Staff handbook and internal job application improvements

Apr 5, 2017

Staff Handbook

Pacific's staff handbook is being revised to reflect current practices, changes in regulation and improve its clarity and has temporarily been removed from the university's website. Revisions should be complete by Sept. 1, 2017.

Please refer to the Policies and Procedures website if you have questions. If you need additional resources and guidance, please contact your Human Resources Department on the Stockton Campus at 209.946.2124; the San Francisco Campus at 415.929.6468; or the Sacramento Campus at 916.739.7031.

Internal Job Application Process

Pacific believes in promoting from within and we want our managers to understand the advantages of advancing our employees. Effective immediately, we are eliminating the "short" abbreviated application in PeopleAdmin that Pacific employees had been able to complete.

The short application omitted work history, dates of employment, supervisor information and reasons for leaving. The exclusion of this information:

  • puts our internal candidates at a disadvantage compared to external candidates who complete a comprehensive application
  • makes it difficult for supervisors to fulfill their due diligence and verify information such as employment dates and reasons for leaving and to conduct complete reference checks

This document, Applying for Jobs Internally; Considering Internal Applicants, includes tips for applying and interviewing and illustrates the value of promoting internal candidates.
