Single-use restrooms to be re-identified as gender neutral

Feb 2, 2017

Beginning this week and continuing through the month of February, buildings and grounds staff across all three campuses will be changing signage on all single-user restrooms to identify them as gender neutral. A single-user restroom refers to any toilet facility with only one water closet and one urinal, which has a lock controlled by the user.

This is to bring the university in compliance with California state Assembly Bill 1732, which was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown in September 2016. The requirement applies to any business establishment, place of public accommodation or state or local government agency, including public educational entities. Signage is to be in place by March 1. No other modifications to the restrooms are required.
