An update on openings that have become available either to replace departing incumbents, to replace interim personnel on a permanent basis or due to an increase in responsibility pursuant to the Strategic Enrollment Plan.

Part-time Administrative Positions

Director, Powell Scholars Program:
Courtney Lehmann
, Professor of English and Film Studies in the College of the Pacific, has been appointed to this position. She will continue the exemplary work begun by Cynthia Wagner Weick, who founded the Powell Scholars Program in 2009 and is retiring at the end of this academic year. The Powell Scholars Program is the university's premier academic program, focusing on developing the academic, creative, and leadership potential of high-performing students in all majors across the university.

"I appreciate Dr. Weick for her many years of outstanding service to the University at the faculty and leadership levels, particularly for successfully heading the Powell Scholars Program since its launch," Provost Maria Pallavicini stated. "Pacific continues to develop excellent student leaders as a result of her efforts."

Dr. Lehmann joined Pacific in 1998 and in 2010 was named the Tully Knoles Professor of the Humanities. She has served the university through many positions over the years, including the Director of the Pacific Humanities Scholars Program, Director of the Pacific Humanities Center, and interim Director of the Media X program that is set to launch this fall. She also has served as vice chair, chair and past chair of the Academic Council. Dr. Lehmann was selected by her peers as the 2016 winner of the Distinguished Faculty Award, Pacific's highest faculty honor, and in 2003 was named one of the Eberhardt Teacher-Scholar Award winners.

Director, Undergraduate Research:
Lydia Fox
, Associate Professor of Geological & Environmental Sciences and Director of Environmental Studies in the College of the Pacific, has been reappointed to this position effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Fox is the Founding Director of Undergraduate Research, having been named to the position in 2010. Her leadership in undergraduate research precedes her serving in this position, however. She has been active in Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) for over 20 years and currently serves as both an elected member of the Council and on the CUR-Goldwater Scholars Mentor's Award review committee.

In 2001, Dr. Fox organized the first Pacific Undergraduate Research Conference, an event that has grown over the years from a 2-hour poster session to several weeks of events at multiple venues across the Stockton campus. The event was expanded to become the Pacific Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference (PURCC), now in its 17th year (and currently underway now through Commencement). Earlier this month, under the leadership of Dr. Fox, 24 Pacific students presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research at the University of Memphis.

Dr. Fox also has developed other opportunities to support and recognize undergraduate research, through student travel and research grants and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program, which provides funding for students so that they may focus on research over summer.  She also established the Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring, which was made possible by the generosity of a donor and recognizes the excellent work of faculty who mentor undergraduate research.  Continuing her history in innovation in this area, she will be developing an assistant director of undergraduate research position.

The Provost would like to express her many thanks to Dr. Fox for her tireless, continuing work to facilitate and recognize outstanding undergraduate research opportunities for our students.

Assistant Provost for Diversity
Joan Lin-Cereghino
, Professor and Co-chair in the Department of Biology in the College of the Pacific, has been appointed to this position effective July 1. The Provost is deeply appreciative to Chris Goff for his dedicated service over the past three years and for the the tremendous work he and the Diversity Leadership Team accomplished during that time to promote and support diversity in our faculty, students and staff at Pacific.
